Spa Bardejovske Kupele is situated on the northeast of Slovakia in the Low Beskidy near historically important medieval town of Bardejov. The incidence of healing mineral waters in the quiet picturesque surroundings of predominantly coniferous forests in the onset and development of the nice spa town.
The main treasure of the spa is the range of natural mineral springs. Ten springs well on the relatively small territory in the internal area of the spa.
The health care is guaranteed in all spa hotels, where the clients are examined on the relevant professional level. The whole complexity of the provided curative procedures is ensured by the Spa House, where there is a Balneotherapy section established together with the spa policlinic. The spa treatment of all the above disorders except of the professional diseases is possible also in relation to therapy of children indications.
Mineral waters are available within the drinking cures at the Colonnade in defined time intervals (morning - at noon - in the evening).
Healthy nature sources
Bardejov mineral water is a natural curative water, weak - medium mineralised, hydrogen carbonic-chlorid, sodium, ferric, carbonic, cold, hypotonic, with enhanced content of bore acid. The waters are used for drinking cures, mineral bath and inhalation.
All the mineral springs are conducted into the roofed, heated colonnade where they are applied for internal balneotherapy by way of drinking cure. The affect of the drinking cures is the most expressive in curing the disorders of digestive organs, i.e. in case of hyperacid and hypoacid states, in disorders of the stomach, gall-bladder and gall ducts, liver, pancreas and bowel disorders.

The Main Spring has acidic character, it is utilised for curing stomach and duodenum disorders, post-operation state of stomach, disorders of liver, lack of gastric acid, blood disorders and problems with formation of blood.
This Spring is highly mineralised having alkaline nature. It is utilised for curing stomach and duodenum disorders with overproduction of gastric acid, for inhalation by chronic bronchitis, inflammation of mucous of the upper respiratory organs, and for enlarged windpipes and curing astma.
By its content of mineral substances and carbon dioxide this spring pertains to the most effective ones in Slovakia. It has proved to be efficient in therapy of digestive disorders and duodenum, respiratory diseases. It is true especially due to the fact that its content of iodine acts extraordinarily favourably in removing of slime from the respiratory organs. It is very efficient in curing diabetes too.
The spring is characterised by low content of sodium, it has proved to be useful in curing different disorders of the liver.
The water of this spring contains iron, it is carbonic with traces of hydro-sulphide and it is applied in inhalation for respiratory organ disorders and for rheumatic illnesses of the joints.
The water is hydro-carbonic, with content of chloride, sodium, iron and carbon, with increased content of bore acid. It is applied for therapy of gall-duct, collitide and chronic disorders of liver.
This spring is appropriate for curing stomach dyspepsia, chronic disorders of pancreas and the upper respiratory organ disorders. Its water is hydrocarbonic, chloridised, with sodium and increased content of metabolit acid.
This spring is advisable in curing anaemia, deficit of gastric acid and inflammation of stomach.

The first written mention of Bardejov Spa dates back as far as 1247 when the Hungarian king Béla IVth donated the territory of the present spa jointly with the springs to the city Bardejov. We know for certain that the local people knew the curative effects of the mineral springs very soon that they could experience themselves.
Up to the 15th century there is no precise information about the spa. The good reputation, however, spread over very quickly therefore the first booths for bathing sick people, coming here from the distant surroundings, have been built in 1505. In 1777 the first brick building was built near to the springs. The building had 12 rooms serving for the patients comfort. The curative effects attracted the Hungarian and Polish nobility which contributed essentially to the development of Bardejov spa.
Bardejov Spa has integrated among the most often visited spa of Hungary by the end of the 18th century. The city started to fill in containers and export the Bardejov acidulous water not only to Budapest, but also to Warsaw, Berlin, Frankfurt. In the first half of the 19th century the Bardejov spa experienced a flourishing time. Within a short time a new spacious spa-house was built up and several dwelling houses. That time already 13 mineral springs were utilised.
The reputation of spa disseminated all over Europe so besides the visitors coming form the near vicinity who spent here just a short time, most of the guests spent in the spa from three to six weeks.
Among those visitors there were several famous people such as the Austo-Hungarian emperor Josef IInd (1783), Maria Louisa, the later wife of emperor Napoleon (1809), the Russian tsar Alexander Ist (1821), the Polish queen Maria Kazimiera Sobieska, wife of the Polish king John III Sobiesky and in 1895 took some therapy here the wife of the emperor Frantz Josef I., the empress Elisabeth, called Sissi whose sculpture is ascending in the spa park.
Bardejov is a natural center of tourism in the Prešov region and an important destination in Slovakia, mainly due to Bardejov Spa, tradition and visits which extends well beyond the borders of the state.
Beauty of the city and its surroundings are well known to tourists and intensely perceived by the locals. Urban conservation area with complex buildings forming a Jewish suburb, in 2000 was entered into the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
